Short Shakes Macbeth- CST (2019)

Design Team:

Director: Marti Lyons

Designer: Scott Davis

Budget: $4000

Production Process

All props needed to be especially sturdy because it was a touring show. All props also had to either stack or fit into the limited space of the tour boxes. Extra props were made for any props that could be vulnerable to damage, and a repair kit and instructions were provided for the tour crew. As a special build, the cauldron had to be durable but light-weight. As none of our stock cauldrons could fit through the limitations of the set, it became a custom build. Worked closely with the ASM and the director to determine the design needs for the cauldron. For example, because the apparitions would come out of the cauldron, it needed to be a certain size. In addition, the top lip had to house a glowing ring that could be lifted out. Scott Davis designed the overall appearance as seen in the drafting above and I took the lead in making sure the cauldron met the necessary functions. Came up with a low-cost method of using scrap foam. Worked with two artisans to build it in a timely manner.
